Run-D.M.C. to Receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

Hip-Hop legends Run-D.M.C. will be regarded with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award this year, the Recording Academy reported Wednesday (Jan. 13).

The Queens natives by the name of Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell - will join a large group of incredible beneficiaries including R&B veteran Ruth Brown, Latin legend Celia Cruz, famous funk band Earth, Wind and Fire, jazz symbol Herbie Hancock, counterculture rock act Jefferson Airplane and pop sensation Linda Ronstadt.

"I just got a call from the Grammys!! They stunned me!!," tweeted Rev Run. "We're the first rappers to get this honor!! Stunned! Thankful!. God is great!!! I'm so regarded to be a #GRAMMYs Lifetime Achievement Award beneficiary this year. Much obliged to you to the Recording Academy!"

Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow lauded the 2016 lifetime-accomplishment beneficiaries in a public statement reporting the news. "Every year, The Academy has the unmistakable benefit of regarding the individuals who have extraordinarily added to our industry and social legacy, and this year we have a talented and splendid gathering of honorees. Their remarkable achievements, commitments, and creativity will keep on impacting and move eras to come."

Run-D.M.C. - who will be praised in a unique function close by different beneficiaries this spring - was the first rap act to recieve a gold album with their self-titled 1984 debut and to be selected for a Grammy. Past honorees incorporate The Beatles, George Harrison, The Bee Gees and Buddy Guy.
